My favourite part about a holiday is getting away from routine. That along with tonnes of culture. And if I can’t have a heavy dose of cultural sightseeing, then a huge amount of luxury and pampering will do… Which is why I enjoyed my Scott Dunn
villa holiday so very much. I stayed at Las Palmeras in Pollenca, Mallorca.
Thanks to the Scott Dunn-managed villa being staffed with an incredibly attentive host concierge, a supremely talented chef and a superb nanny (if you require one), your every need is catered for – even before you know what it is that you need…
Master bedroom ensuite – bath with a view of the pool
Las Palmeras sleeps up to eight people over four elegant and spacious double bedrooms. I was staying in the master bedroom which, with a four poster bed, walk in wardrobe and double sided balcony, was more than large enough for me to dance around wildly to ‘if you like piña coladas’ without stubbing a single toe.
The lounge – no TV but iPad is provided
Our outside dining table
My only regret is not sleeping on this swinging bed
The view from the master bedroom balcony, below. Nice, hey?
You will receive a few phonecalls when you book your holiday to discuss dietary requirements, excursions you might like to organise and any particular needs. You can chop and change things as you go though, too. The staff can’t do enough for you, which all makes this a tailor made holiday in the truest sense. From bring iced cava and mint drinks to the pool, to leaving out large bottles of suncream and bring extra pillows, the excellence is in the detail. If you have kids, they provide everything from highchairs, cots and monitors, to swimming vests and nappies.
The excellence is also in the amazing location and beautiful traditional whitewash decor of the villa. Turquoise swimming pool, white pool beds and umbrellas, golden stone bricks, green palm trees and terracotta tiles against the brilliant blue sky. It is a short ten minute drive to the idyllic old town of Pollenca, and a ten minute drive to the picturesque port of Pollenca.
When I say ‘idyllic’ and ‘picturesque’, I mean ‘WOW!’ – these places are gorgeous. Don’t write them off just because they are within two hours of the UK – these waters could give the Caribbean a run for their money…
After you have flagged up dietary requirements, you can also request particular dishes to be cooked, for example, must have a curry night and a paella night. Also, the chef will have one night off, but you can arrange for them to pre-prepare you BBQ food which you can then grill yourselves. You can request a five-course tasting menu every night, if you so wish. Or have Coco Pops every day, but we would recommend the continental style breakfast…
Shout out to our talented chef, Rosie, who cooked up all of these treats, among many other…
We were lucky to have Ping Coombes
, winner of Masterchef, join us on our trip. Ping is a master of Malaysian food and has designed an adult and a children’s menu for the chefs in all the Scott Dunn villas to learn and cook for their lucky guests, starting this summer season.
Ping’s tasty menu of Gado-Gado salad, chicken and turmeric rice and Malaysian mess:
Me with the gorgeous Ping, sharing a gin cocktail infused with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves – cheers!
We also took a trip to another local Scott Dunn managed villa, La Samantina
. If you are adverse to a stunning (yes, stunning) view, then look away now. This is from the bedroom balcony…
I am used to trekking around on holiday, cramming in the culture, sights and statues, but a holiday at Las Palmeras is fulfilling in a new way. I have never felt so relaxed on holiday before. You would be hard pushed to eat so well and be cooked such an exquisite array of dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, anywhere else. You can lose hours sitting by the pool – topped up with coolers and light bites brought to your pool bed – and that’s ok. In fact, it is wonderful!
Book a Scott Dunn villa and take your best friends/ favourite family members with you. You will be able to spend real quality time together over lots of Mallorcan food and wine, and these relaxing views.
Scott Dunn offers 7 nights at Las Palmeras in Pollenca, Mallorca from £1,525 per person based on full occupancy of 8 guests and including a private chef, host and nanny. This also includes full board on 5 and a half days, unlimited soft drinks and beer, a wine hamper, private transfers or car hire and flights with British Airways from the UK.
SHOPPING: Make sure you buy these in Pollenca old town:
* Sobresada piccante – spicy spreadable sausage. Oh, yes.
* Manchego cheese
* Local honey in a ceramic pot
* Chorizo (of course)
* Balsamic vinegar – which comes in all sorts of strengths. I bought blackberry and date, which can be used in salads, in prosecco, or taken as a shot!
Day out: Take a chartered boat trip around the port of Pollenca…
Enjoy a sunrise yoga session by the pool, by organising with your concierge. We had a fantastic lesson with Yoga Pollensa
, with not only an instructor, but her husband who played traditional music while we stretched!
