I remember wearing Doc Martens at the age of about 12, and suffering ‘shoe envy’ as my best friend had the cherry red ones and my cousin had ones with flowers (I think daisies) on. It seems they are making somewhat of a comeback, although not sure they ever really went away.
I have been away in the Isle of Wight for a few days, and happened across possibly the best Doc Marten shop outside of Camden. ‘Off the Wall’ is on Union Street in the seaside town of Ryde. The shop window display drew my attention, with two pairs of floral print designs. My friends have been buying DM’s for the summer’s festivals. Upon further enquiry, apparently these particular boots are part of a now discontinued line, making them very rare indeed.
Alongside all the brand spanking new boots is a wide selection of ‘used’ boots, cheaper and varied styles at a much cheaper price (around £25-£30).
A highlight of the collection was a see-through perspex DM hanging from the ceiling. It is one of only ten pairs in the world! Worth a visit to spy on this alone, (although it is definitely not for sale – I asked!)
