Mykonos: Lifestyle of the rich and famous…

The return flight of a holiday is always tinged with a little sadness, especially when you have to fly through four layers of clouds and land to a grey (but also very green) England. I have had a memorable, and very sunny, week on the wonderful Greek island of Mykonos with my mum and sister. It is still an extremely rural island, except for the main Mykonos town which is a playground for celebs including Sarah Jessica Parker and Tom Cruise (who shop at ‘Soho Soho’) as well as passengers on the gigantic cruise liners that dock in the tiny harbour. But good luck finding a cocktail under ten Euros – this clientele doesn’t shop, drink or eat cheaply. The streets of Mykonos town are narrow, spotlessly clean and crazy paved. The houses are whitewashed every year and the shutters and doors painted blue – in other words, picture perfect.
Mykonos is a dream: quaint, picturesque, dramatic sunsets, amazing sea side bars (visit Kastros in Little Venice for a Baileys Frappe), delicious food, perfect for people watching and unspoilt. The nightlife is on balance, also very good, with lots of beachside bars and clubs  – the best of both worlds. We stayed in the Archipelagos Hotel in Kalo Livadi, 15 minutes outside Mykonos town. The hotel was gorgeous, lots of fish restaurants and other tavernas within walking distance and lots of coves and beaches to choose from. We had a lovely girly holiday but with so much to see, I will certainly be recommending Mykonos very loudly to Tom…
