Visionaire Issue 61
Well known for merging the elite with the underground, Visionaire magazine certainly knows how to make an impact in the creative world. Describing itself as ‘a limited edition multi-format fashion and art publication’ Visionaire is a kind of open forum for emerging and well-known artists (including designers, fine artists and musicians). The latest issue (three issues are published per year) is themed ‘larger than life’ and true to life it towers over me at seven-feet tall and five-feet wide. Containing a set of photographs from artists including Karl Lagerfeld, Ryan McGinley and Bruce Weber, it has been judged as the World’s largest magazine by Guinness World Records and is currently on show (until mid-December) at the Visionaire Gallery 11 Mercer Street, New York. I was nervous to turn the pages and checked first with the receptionist that there was no way I was going to tear it. Walking the length of the magazine with every page turn, it’s an awesome experience – and at $1,500 per copy, one I will leave at the gallery. There is a smaller issue measuring 36″x49″ which will set you back $375 – yes please Santa!
Boundaries are always pushed at Visionaire making every issue is a visual feast. Previous incarnations have included; a 200 page book in a GAP rucksack (Issue 41), a wooden box filled with photographs taken by Karl Lagerfeld over a period of nine months (Issue 23) and a set of 21 original vials of scent in a presentation box (Issue 42).
