How to eat oysters? Try the Wright Brothers, Oyster and Porter House

Bustling Borough Market
Have you ever tried an oyster? Are you screwing up your nose and saying yuck? Well, don’t knock it until you have tried it, I always say. And if you are going to try an oyster, then the place to do it in London is The Wright Brothers – Oyster & Porter HouseI can’t imagine trying a second rate version would be a very good idea, so it’s a good job that these oysters are the finest around. I had one to try (just one, first timer) served with shallot vinegar and lemon. After I got over my initial fear, which was heightened by the chef telling me that I needed to chew it, I gave it a whirl. It wasn’t gritty or chewy, it was creamy and quite subtle and I was an instant convert. Although I think it may remain a delicacy in my diet. The restaurant itself is so pleasant; the kind of place you can waste away an entire afternoon. Posh without being stuffy and fun without being overbearing.
We sat at the bar, next to the chefs who were preparing our food, and ordered (alongside my one oyster) a fish pie and dressed crab, with a side salad of tomatoes and shallots. The Oyster House is situated in Borough Market; hooray, another excuse to visit this fantastic place. Highly recommended, this restaurant is the kind of place that was made for long Friday lunchtimes that merge into Friday nights, whilst equally being suited to lazy Sundays.
